Let It Grow: When Taking Action Means Giving Something Room
Sometimes taking action means doing something.
And sometimes it means recognizing that you've already done your part.
That distinction became the heart of my latest installment of The Signal, “Let It Grow.”
The message began, as these often do, with a card reading. I asked a very simple question:
“What do I need to know today?”
Four cards came out together:
Seven of Earth — Seeds well planted. A temporary pause in action. Unnecessary worry.
Nine of Fire — Don't give up. Protect that which you've created. Have courage and believe in yourself.
The High Priestess — Archangel Haniel — Listen to your intuition. Have patience. Consider carefully what you want before acting.
Page of Water — Intuitive. Sensitive. Artistic. Friendly. A relationship begins a new phase. Heightened psychic abilities.
At first glance, there is a lot going on in those four cards.
But as I sat with them, something much simpler began to emerge.
Plant. Protect. Listen. Receive.
The Seven of Earth begins with something already done.
The seeds have been planted.
That's important.
This isn't a message telling us to sit around waiting for life to happen. The planting came first. Someone chose the seeds, prepared the ground and put them into the soil.
There was action.
But eventually there comes a point when continually digging around the seed to see whether it's growing becomes counterproductive.
You have to give it some room.
Protect What Matters Without Trying to Control It
The Nine of Fire could easily sound like another instruction to push harder:
Don't give up. Keep fighting.
But that wasn't how this card felt to me.
I've been thinking quite a bit lately about the difference between protecting something and forcing something.
With my creative work, for example, protecting it can mean preserving the process that makes the work meaningful to me.
I don't want to create content simply because a platform wants more content. I don't want to turn something I enjoy into a production line just because technology makes that possible.
Sometimes protecting what you've created means protecting why you created it in the first place.
Pay Attention Without Giving the Outcome Control
This has become particularly important to me with The Signal.
Of course I look at the results after I publish something.
How many people watched? Did they stay? Did something connect? Is there something useful I can learn?
Those are reasonable questions.
Releasing attachment to an outcome doesn't mean refusing to look at information.
It means the information doesn't get to decide whether the work was worthwhile.
You can learn from the outcome without giving it control.
That line became one of the most important lyrics in Let It Grow.
Taking Action Doesn't Mean Pushing All the Time
The High Priestess introduced another part of the message:
Listen. Have patience. Consider carefully before acting.
That might sound contradictory to something I recently wrote about spiritual guidance and the importance of taking action.
I don't think it is.
Action matters.
But action doesn't mean constant action.
Sometimes you've gathered the information, made the decision, planted the seed and taken the appropriate steps.
At that point, doing more isn't necessarily better.
The next appropriate action may actually be allowing some space to see what develops.
Stay Open to What Arrives
Then there was the Page of Water.
This card brought something softer into the reading: intuition, sensitivity, creativity, new relationships and relationships entering new phases.
For me, it felt less like an instruction to go searching for something and more like an invitation to remain open to what arrives.
That may be a person.
It may be an opportunity.
It may be help you weren't expecting.
It may simply be evidence that something you planted earlier has finally begun to break through the soil.
You don't always know what growth will look like when you begin.
And perhaps you don't need to.
Let It Grow
That became the song:
Plant what you love
Give it what you've got
You don't have to know
How the story turns out
And eventually:
Not everything needs pushing
Sometimes you've done your part
Leave a little room
For something new to start
There is a difference between giving up and giving something room.
There is also a difference between paying attention and trying to control the result.
I'm learning to recognize both.
Maybe that's the invitation in this Signal:
Plant what matters.
Protect what matters.
Listen.
Pay attention.
Stay open.
And when you've genuinely done your part...
let it grow.
